A man leased a five-piece bedroom set from a Rent a Center on the 1700 of West 49th Street about 4:37 pm Aug. 20. The man signed a contract and made payments for only one week, then moved to an unknown location and has not been reached.

But We're Fire Rescue

The sign says "No Parking Fire Lane" but it's ok because they're Fire Rescue right? We didn't see anyone inside or outside the vehicle or any signs of someone in distress so we're just going to have to wonder if they were shopping at Kohls or having breakfast in the cafe.

Editorial - Amelia Earhart Park

You we're all about Hialeah so when this editorial came into our email we didn't want to deny it's author the chance to have his/her voice heard. We didn't write it, we're not responsible for the content but you're welcome to leave your comments for the author. This is our first editorial but if it you like it and if there's something you want to say we might feature it here too.

Editorial - Amelia Earhart Park by A.

I bring this to the attention of the citizens of the City of Hialeah, the City of Miami, South Florida, State of Florida, and outwardly into the world.

Dedicated to those of you who care about our forests, our natural resources, and the wild beauty of nature, and do not want to see them become another parking lot.

In the city of Hialeah, there is a little known gem, called Amelia Earhart Park. Even to those who regularly visit this site, do not truly know of its beauty.

I will make this short and get to the point, I will not spend too much time on this not because I don’t care enough, but because I believe that what we resist with emotions we attract more of, and If there is nothing I can do about it, then at least I will not fuel more of what is already happening.

In Amelia Earhart Park, there is a pristine natural forest, which has been untouched by men for thousands of years all the way in the back previously unaccesible by car. In this site we can still see natural hills, not man made, and coral stone remnants of an ocean millions of years old.

This is the last remaining piece of natural history left in Hialeah.

Hialeah park also known as the Hialeah Dog Race Track, or El Ipodromo as we here call it -is whole 'nother story.

Hialeah has become the city of progress, progress towards a giant concrete block, progress towards all things industry, but it is not in harmony with the future, and it is not in harmony with nature.

I am no tree-hugger, but it does not take a tree hugger to feel a noticeable difference when one enters a city such as Coral Gables, filled with tress, and parks where one can go and truly get away and be free in man’s natural environment among many of the other benefits, inlcuding natural fresh air, and land value.

It is not enough that we live in artificial environments, and eat artificial foods; it is not enough for the people of this park who are converting every bit of our paradise into parking lots and unnatural bike trails, and thinking they have the right to cut down 200-300 year old trees. -Trees which have been around many years before them. Yet, they still feel they own it, they own nature; because someone gave them a paper that says they own the land. It is all illusion.

Even the people who are cutting down and defacing our planet do not really understand what they are doing, if they really knew they would not do it.

I write this in the spare chance that there is someone else out there who may read this and cares enough, I will not pursue this further, I will however speak my truth and just let it be.

I do believe that there are many people who care, but in our city more and more are giving-in to the concrete way of life, and no longer hear their voice loud enough to speak towards what they know is right and true.

Hialeah Goes Green In A Big Way

Looks like Hialeah is going green - in a BIG way. You can't miss these giant green recycling bins given out by the city across all of Hialeah. If you haven't got yours, you should be getting them this week. These bigger bins are better than the red ones we've had. Those were just adding to the litter in Hialeah since they were too small and everything spilled out of them when they were picked up.

Traffic Sucks in Hialeah

In Hialeah, we make our own driving rules. This causes lots of traffic. We're we'll known for our crazy driving and impromptu traffic jams. Don't you just love Hialeah? (make sure you get a close up of the photo in the middle)

If any Hialeah officials take the time to read this blog, you might want to pay attention and get involved in making some positive changes. Traffic flow under the Palmetto Expressway by Westfield/Westlan Mall is a giant arroz con mango! Check it out during morning and evening rush hour. Dale!

Police Officer Crashes Car In Hialeah

I don't know what happened but the cop's car was smashed into the civilian's car and it looks like the hit they cement fence too. That sucks for everyone involved. The good news is, police were on the scene.

Shopping Cops In Hialeah

No wonder you can never find a cop in Hialeah when you need one. They're all out shopping! I love how there are several parking spots open but the sergeant blocks them by parking sideways IN THE STREET. By the way, great parking job there sergeant!

Hialeah Gets a New Bridge

Mayor Julio Robaina joined Mayor Ramon Rodriguez from the City of Medley, Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz and other officials for the inauguration of the new bridge on Okeechobee and West 16th avenue. The bridge connects Hialeah to the city of Medley and provides easier access to NW 72 Avenue. Mayor Robaina addressed the crowd, "This joint construction venture provided many needed jobs to the community and will greatly benefit the businesses in the area."

One More Way to Screw Hialeans

Guess What? Gratigny Parkway Goes Cashless Today!

A warning for drivers: Open road tolling begins TODAY on the Gratigny Parkway. Toll booths ain't gonna be operational on and cash ain't gonna be accepted. You had best get you a one of those SunPass thingies. Get this, if you get on or off at Red Road you get a discount and pay just 50 cents. If you get off by LeJeune then you get screwed out of a dollar. Nice aint it?

There's a shitstorm of work under way to remove the tollbooths too. The work is expected to take a few months. Big surprise there. Drivers are asked to use SunPass lanes until that work is complete but they forget to mention that since the work has been underway, they've only had ONE frickin lane open!!! Wasn't the whole point of this new system to make it faster and safer? Yea, not working.

By the way peeps, If you ain't got a SunPass, you'll get a bill in the mail.The Gratigny Parkway is the first of the five Miami-Dade Expressway Authority roadways to go open road tolling. All five expressways are expected to be cashless by 2013.

City of Hialeah Community Development Department

City of Hialeah Community Development Department

The City of Hialeah has a full time Community Development Department. It has the responsibility to enforce city and county zoning ordinances and building codes. It is staffed with a full complement of clerks, plans examiners, and building inspectors.

Business and home owners desiring to build new structures or modify existing buildings must apply to the Community Development Department for a permit. The first step is submitting an application along with drawings (Plans), for review by the Planning Division. From there, the documents will go to the Building Division for review by the different building disciplines for compliance with the building codes.

Once the permit for construction is issued, a series of in-progress inspections will be performed to ensure that the construction materials and methods comply with the approved drawings and the building codes. Upon completion of any new structure, a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) will be issued, granting the owner of the building permission to occupy and use the building for its intended purposes.

Additionally, the Community Development Department has the responsibility to conduct damage assessment and hazardous structure identification after any disaster occurs. The inspectors and examiners of P & D are trained professionals that have been certified by the State of Florida, and Miami-Dade County.

City of Hialeah Planning and Zoning Division

The Planning and Zoning Division is located on the second floor of City Hall. It is recommended that before building or opening a business in the city, the Planning and Zoning Division be contacted in order to find out if the proposed use/building meets the requirements of the City of Hialeah.

In order to expedite the permitting and licensing process it is recommended that the plans and/or proposals receive a review by this division at the preliminary phase of development.

Planning is in charge of keeping an updated Comprehensive Plan that is the written document setting out policies and recommendations for future growth and development of the city. The Comprehensive Plan includes information on existing conditions and trends in the city, goals and objectives for the future, and recommended ways for achieving these goals. It is an advisory document. State law requires that zoning and development or subdivision regulations be based on the Comprehensive Plan.

Zoning consists of a whole body of regulations that are intended to coordinate land development for current and future needs of the city. The regulations include the zoning map, land use chart, dimensional regulations, definitions, permitted uses and other regulations pertaining to the various zoning districts. Variances, land use plan amendments, rezoning, conditional and special use permits and re-occupancy are also handled by the Planning and Zoning Division.

The existing land use and zoning on a particular property can be found on the city’s website home page by simply clicking on the “property search” link. The city’s code of ordinances can also be accessed on line at www.municode.com.

The Planning and Zoning Division staff will gladly answer your questions and assist you with processing applications for your various needs.
