Just What We Need, Another Latin America

Guess what? Hialeah has a new Latin American at Palm Avenue and 7th Street. Just what we needed!

Hialeah Gets a New Bridge

Mayor Julio Robaina joined Mayor Ramon Rodriguez from the City of Medley, Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz and other officials for the inauguration of the new bridge on Okeechobee and West 16th avenue. The bridge connects Hialeah to the city of Medley and provides easier access to NW 72 Avenue. Mayor Robaina addressed the crowd, "This joint construction venture provided many needed jobs to the community and will greatly benefit the businesses in the area."

Classic Hialeah Home

This is a classic. It could almost be a guide for creating your Hialeah home. Let's review...

1. Tiled Steps
2. Fountain
3. Saint (extra bonus for it being San Lazaro)
4. Sculpture or Statue
5. Front Porch (extra bonus for it being tiled)
6. Barrel Tiled Roof
7. Bars on the Door

Even though we've posted a few houses with the classic cement front yard, we all know the other alternative is a perfectly manicured and landscaped lawn. These people to the lawn decorations to the extreme though. I'm gonna guess and say this is a cubiche married to an americano.

Anchored In Hialeah

One thing about Hialeah, we are pretty creative when it comes to our mailboxes. You can see more creative Hialeah mailboxes in our series under the "Mailboxes" category on our sidebar.

If you see a creative mailbox in Hialeah, take a picture and send it in to us.

Cowboys Love Coffee in Hialeah

Another Hialeah Horse spotting... this time at Starbucks. Those cowboys sure do love their caffeine. I want to see someone ride up to a cafeteria window on horseback next.

Los Pollitos Pio

The chickens rule the roost at this Hialeah apartment. The residents were quite proud of their chickens, roosters and baby chicks. I thought letting the chickens roam freely in their house was a nice touch. That's the kind of love for chickens you only find in Hialeah - oh and a few redneck states too.

Backyards Are Totally Overrated

In Hialeah, you don't have to have a backyard to have a bounce house for your baby's birthday. You know, backyards and grass are totally overrated anyway.

Step On A Crack, Break Your Mami's Back

What's up with the sidewalks in Hialeah? Someone from the City of Hialeah should try to take a little walk around Hialeah on its sidewalks (you know, instead of walking in the street). These sidewalks are accidents waiting to happen.

If I break an ankle on a poorly maintained city sidewalk, can I sue?

One More Way to Screw Hialeans

Guess What? Gratigny Parkway Goes Cashless Today!

A warning for drivers: Open road tolling begins TODAY on the Gratigny Parkway. Toll booths ain't gonna be operational on and cash ain't gonna be accepted. You had best get you a one of those SunPass thingies. Get this, if you get on or off at Red Road you get a discount and pay just 50 cents. If you get off by LeJeune then you get screwed out of a dollar. Nice aint it?

There's a shitstorm of work under way to remove the tollbooths too. The work is expected to take a few months. Big surprise there. Drivers are asked to use SunPass lanes until that work is complete but they forget to mention that since the work has been underway, they've only had ONE frickin lane open!!! Wasn't the whole point of this new system to make it faster and safer? Yea, not working.

By the way peeps, If you ain't got a SunPass, you'll get a bill in the mail. The Gratigny Parkway is the first of the five Miami-Dade Expressway Authority roadways to go open road tolling. All five expressways are expected to be cashless by 2013.

I hope I am outta here by then.
