You can always tell when garbage day is coming no matter where you are in Hialeah. The day before, everyone tosses out their trash and then the little viejitos come out to go treasure hunting.

So is Hialeah the only city remaining in Dade County that doesn't have the mandatory trash bins?
Mira que la gente en esta país bota cosas buenas. Tu sabes que el sofá que tengo yo en el florida me lo encontré tirado en la calle? Namas que le tuve que pasar un trapito con cloro y quedo que parece nuevo.
Por cierto sabes que los otros días me encontré una mano de cucarachitas alemanas saliendo por el fregadero. Pa mi que esas vienen del townhouse de al lado. Esa mujer ni limpia. Me tiene la casa llena de cucarachas.

Not just viejitos, the weekend before Monday (first of the month) pick up, the scrap metal trucks are trolling the neighborhood. I always laugh and see how long the stuff will stay outside before someone grabs it...
