Go Big or Go To Hell

Ok, maybe not hell but it sounded better than go big or go home. In Hialeah we like to supersize our saints so it's only natural to see one that's floor to ceiling right? You ain't seen nothing unti; you've seen this one at night. It's got purple neon. I can't promise you a picture of that but I'll sure try.

Shopping Cops In Hialeah

No wonder you can never find a cop in Hialeah when you need one. They're all out shopping! I love how there are several parking spots open but the sergeant blocks them by parking sideways IN THE STREET. By the way, great parking job there sergeant!

Hialeah Haikus

"Either my jeans shrank
Or this rice and beans diet
Is stretching my ass'' - Santayana

Yes, there's a book out called Hialeah Haikus and it's mad popular too. Hialeah Haikus is written by a group of Miami artists, writers and actors in their 20s and 30s calling themselves "Foryoucansee."

Laura Isensee of the Miami Herald writes about the book saying "Seventeen syllables at a time, the writers try to celebrate the Miami culture they know and grew up with. That's not the slick image of South Beach from television, but the Cuban-American culture that pulses in the suburbs of Kendall, at the spring formal at Belen Jesuit prep school or in the agua, fango y factoria of Hialeah (a less-than-flattering reference to the city's water, mud and factories). Here's the link to the full story: Young artists celebrate Miami in ‘Hialeah Haikus'

I don't know about you but this is a book I have to check out. There aren't too many out there that truly celebrate real life and pop culture in Miami.

Shout Outs

I have to take a moment to give a few shout outs here to some nice peeps that hooked us up.

First and foremost, lovely Rebekah, the Miami Cocktails Examiner who wrote Local cocktails: a mixology ode to Sweet Home Hialeah apparently inspired by our recent blog posts on sherbet colored houses. Thanks Rebekah for the recognition and for the delicioso new cocktail.

Last but not least, Jenny who writes over at Hearts and Hoops a blog about the misadventures and random ruminations of her life as a sister, daughter, friend, teacher and wife of a Basketball Coach. Jenny listed us as one of her favorite reads. That makes me all tingly - you know, in a manly kind of way.

So thanks peeps for sticking with us and getting our self-satire. We love you right back!
